Late Night Snack #1- Guacamole
Late night can be a tempting time for snackers. I think we all recognize the pull to the pantry, followed by 60 seconds of looking around to see what is going to satisfy that craving. Unfortunately, not too many people (and feel free to comment if you are in the minority here) head to the fridge after 9pm cause they just can’t resist the temptation of those carrot sticks any more! Some of us crave sweets, some crave salt, and others crave fat. It turns out that sugar, fat and salt are the 3 ingredients that the food industry has discovered they can combine in certain ratios to make food irresistible to us (for example, a certain fast food chain’s fries are soaked in sugar water, fried in fat, then salted).
Here’s a more natural late night snack that can satisfy your craving for sugar fat and salt.
1 ripe avocado- soft enough to give when you press lightly with your thumb
pinch of salt
1/4 teaspoon of chili
juice of 1/2 a lime
pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
- Slice avocado in half lengthwise. Turn and separate the halves. Remove pit and scoop flesh out of both halves and into a bowl
- Sprinkle with salt, chili powder, lime and optional cayenne pepper, and stir to combine
- Eat with carrot sticks, sprouted grain crackers, pretzels, or a spoon!
